Sports blog profile 5: On the Ponty End
On the Ponty End is a Barnsley FC blog that started out in 2008 and has grown from humble beginnings into a good all-rounder.
For the uninitiated, the Ponty End is the traditional name for the South stand (officially the CK Beckett Stand) at Barnsley’s Oakwell home.
The blog is run by “Wilky”, life-long Barnsley fan and season ticket holder (on the Ponty End, would you believe?). It began as a simple forum for Wilky’s views on the club he loves but has expanded and now invites participation and comment from other fans. The site includes the occasional podcast, a forum and a guest writers section and, of course, whatever is on Wilky’s mind at any given moment.
There is a good range of content with the blog updated around once a week and plenty of links to other good football blogs and sites, as well as all the latest news on Barnsley. The blog was recently featured in the Guardian’s “End of Season report”, with Wilky providing a brief snapshot of Barnsley’s season.
This recognition is a worthy compliment for an interesting, entertaining and varied blog that is an open and friendly place that encourages the contributions and thoughts of its readers.
